After almost 12 months of planning, approval, demolition and construction we finally have a new large steel framed barn replacing the existing dilapidated outbuildings and storage area.
We spent the first 6 months of the project going through convoluted planning and building control approval process and by June 2019 we were becoming concerned that we would miss the short summer building season. However, in July we moved the contents of the various outbuildings into a temporary storage tent and started demolishing the old outbuildings.
It took the whole of September to pour the foundations as the weight restriction on the bridge over the River Truim meant that the concrete had to be taken to site in 1 tonne batches by dumper. Towards the end of September we picked up the components of the new steel barn from the supplier near Nairn and started bolting it together.
On 16 November the build was finally complete and we are now able to start moving the contents of the old outbuildings into the new barn, hopefully before the first of the winter storms.
The plan is that, in addition to replacing the existing storage and workshop space, we will be able to move the gym and games room into larger spaces within the new building and provide better bike storage, washing and maintenance facilities.
