We have just finished refurbishing the vegetable garden behind Fernlea and hope to grow a range of soft fruit and vegetables. If everything goes to plan in the next 12-18 months we will be able to leave a pot of jam as well as marmalade for guests when they arrive.
The largest section of the vegetable garden is taken up by a large fruit cage in which we have planted raspberries, strawberries, blackcurrants, red currant, gooseberries and blackberries. All of these should grow reasonably well at Crubenbeg, but will take time to establish. We also have a large rhubarb bed, a small damson tree and two vegetable beds. In order to keep the rabbits out we have also replaced the existing fence. We will let you know how things progress.
